Luna Park Sydney.

Luna Park Sydney was getting it's site re-done. Along with it, a new illustrative look.

I was given the challenge of attempting a new 3D isometric technique. Think the lego movie, Super Mario. So came my first foyey into 3 dimensional icons, hero illustrations and large complex maps.

Rock N Tub

Rock 'N' Tub.
One of the show rides, and the first asset attempted.

I dabbled in a couple of techniques before landing on the 3D isometric effect.

What is that? A more automatic route; using a pop-up panel instead of creating an isometric grid and drawing the illustration by hand.

This process sped up my process and slowed down my computer.

Silly Sub

Silly Sub.
The Silly Sub was the easiest to pull off. Using all the techniques of the Rock 'n' Tub, but with a far more basic shape, and without clouds.

This illustration, along with the Rock 'n' Tub and Mouse Coaster aren't up on the site just yet.

Mouse Coaster

The Mouse Coaster.
The simplest? Wrong. Luna parks Mouse Coaster is the reason I developed patience. Most of the time.

Arranging the little red cart was easy, comparatively.

The true challenge was the track. A riddle in the form of a child’s park ride illustration; it took matching up angles, using only percentages on a panel, blind.

See if you can spot any glitches.

Map

Luna Park Grounds Map.
Look closely, you can spot a few familiar faces.

The map has every ride -including the new- with location accuracy. Well, as close as I could get it. There is a cross-section of the Coney Island building and the Mouse Coaster is in a completely different arrangement (more angle percentage tweaking). You might be able to find the Hair Raiser and Rock ’n’ Tub. Only the Silly Sub, which hides behind Coney Island, has been exempt.

Luna Parks map took the longest to ‘construct’. Currently featured on-site.

Icons and Characters

Showtime Performers.
Luna Park has a bunch of showtime performers that provide live entertainment throughout the park.

These particular characters are called ‘Pavlova’ & ‘Merengue’ to the left, ‘Red Coat Ringmaster’ in the middle and ‘Ooh La La Lady’ to the right.

Created via regular, free hand illustrator technique, no panels and percentages where used in the production of Luna Park’s characters.
